Orcs Must Die! 2 Recensie Round-Up: Waar voor je geld

Orcs Must Die! 2 is sinds vandaag te downloaden op de PC. Voordat je je zuurverdiende centen uitgeeft, wil je eerst weten of de game dat wel waard is. Daarom hebben we de recensies van de game op een rijtje gezet, zodat jij kunt zien of dit het geval is.

In 2010 kwam Orcs Must Die! uit. Een Tower Defense game die in plaats van de derde persoon, in eerste persoon werd gespeeld. Het is jouw taak om de Orcs tegen te houden. Deel een werd goed ontvangen door de media en ook XGN kon de game goed waarderen. Het kreeg dan ook een 8,0 in de recensie. Een tweede deel is nu een feit. Orcs Must Die! 2 belooft net zo goed te zijn als zijn voorganger zonder de fouten uit het eerste deel.

Voordat je echter tot aanschaf overgaat, wil je weten of de game je geld waard is. De recensie op XGN kun je later deze week verwachten, maar er zijn al wat internationale recensies verschenen en die zijn allemaal zeer positief. Niet voor niets stond de eerste Orcs Must Die! game bij onze Hugo bovenaan zijn Top 5 games van 2011.

I've put 20 hours in so far, and I feel like I've got quite a few ahead of me to put co-op leaderboard scores up on all of the maps -- which, actually, makes me wish developer Robot had at least remixed the catchy-but-repetitive theme music. But for $15 (or $25 for two copies) Orcs Must Die! 2 is a fantastic deal for a terrifically entertaining game.

It never loses sight of the singular imperative to kill as many orcs as possible, and while there's a sense that too much has been recycled from the first outing, its unique combination of tower defense and action mechanics reach near perfection here. A qualified triumph for veterans of the first game and newcomers alike.

A year ago, I couldn't imagine another game mixing tower defense and third-person action as well as Orcs Must Die! Clearly, I was wrong.

It's in the myriad ways you can decimate your attackers that the game's appeal lies, and the improvements made here have only made that pleasure more intense. While Orcs Must Die 2 still has balancing issues, they're more than outweighed by the sheer pleasure of the minute-by-minute gameplay, where calculated carnage is its own reward.

Orcs Must Die! 2 is better executed, better balanced and more polished than the original in almost every way. Add in the coop gameplay, all for a very affordable price, and you get yourself something to vent some steam on for the summer!
