Bioshock Infinite Recensie Round-Up: The sky's the limit

Bioshock Infinite ligt vanaf morgen in de winkels voor de Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 en PC. Voordat je de game binnenhaalt wil je natuurlijk weten of de game het echt waard is. Daarom maken wij een lijst met recensies van Bioshock Infinite, zo kun je zien hoe de pers wereldwijd heeft geoordeeld.

Bioshock Infinite is het nieuwste game in de Bioshock reeks, al is er erg veel veranderd. Zo speel je deze keer niet in de onderwaterstad Rapture, maar breng je een bezoekje aan de vliegende stad Columbia. De sfeer is niet alleen veranderd door de nieuwe setting, maar ook de karakters zorgen voor heel wat verandering. Zo ben je in tegenstelling tot de vorige delen niet alleen, maar heb je grotendeels Elizabeth aan je zijde.

In Bioshock infinite maak je gebruik van Vigors, die je net als Plasmids speciale krachten geven. Zo kun je vijanden van het land spoelen met een krachtige waterstroom of kraaien uit de palm van je hand schieten. Naast de krachten heb je ook een groot aantal wapens en als dat niet genoeg kan ook Elizabeth je helpen. Zij kan namelijk portalen naar andere dimensies openen om zo verschillende voorwerpen in de wereld te laten verschijnen.

Voordat je Bioshock Infinity aanschaft wil je eerst weten of de game je geld wel waard is. Je kunt vanzelfsprekend de XGN recensie lezen. Daaruit blijkt dat Bioshock Infinite de hoge verwachtingen heeft ingelost. Het is dan ook een essentiële game die van ons een 9,5 heeft gekregen. De internationale gemeenschap is het daar helemaal mee eens, de game haalt op het moment torenhoge cijfers binnen.

With BioShock Infinite, Ken Levine cements his status as one of gaming’s elite creative minds.

Most importantly though is that BioShock Infinite takes the story and uses the gameplay to enhance it. It puts the player firmly in the shoes of Booker, it makes Elizabeth not just your ward but a crucial part of your game. It connects the player and the player character inextricably, and then it tells a story through that connection.

Met BioShock Infinite heeft Irrational Games laten zien hoe je een verhaal op de best mogelijke manier kunt vertellen in een videogame. Er is niet alleen aandacht besteed aan belangrijke plotpunten, heel Columbia is zorgvuldig samengesteld om bij te dragen aan een overweldigende sfeer. Of het nu de poster is van een festival aan de muur of een van de vele audio logboeken die je tegenkomt, het verhaal staat in BioShock Infinite op de eerste plaats. Het is een ervaring die iedere gamer meegemaakt moet hebben en aan het einde zul je net als ons met open mond naar je beeldscherm zitten staren.
