We've still got a week until the Spike TV Video Game Awards air, but you can already take a glimpse at a new PS3 exclusive called The Last of Us. The trailer showcases riots, tragic humans, quarantine signs, and overall strife.

After you check out the trailer below, head over to the game's official website and check out a video of an ant thing. What's that all about?
The ‘Last Of Us’ website – the teaser site for the Video Game Awards’ major PlayStation 3 exclusive reveal – was updated with a teaser screenshot today. Changing the file name of that screenshot, which is “TLOU_image_2,” by removing the 2 an replacing a 1 reveals a second screenshot. We’ve attached both below.

The reveal happens this Saturday, December 10 at the Spike TV Video Game Awards. According to Geoff Keighley, it’ll be “mind-blowing.”

Following it’s Video Game Awards announcement, Sony detailed Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us. A “genre-defining experience,” the game promises to blend “survival and action elements” in a “character driven story” surrounding survivors Joel and Ellie, who must work together to journey across a United States destroyed by plague and reclaimed by nature.

The Last of Us is a genre-defining experience that blends survival and action elements to tell a character driven story about a population decimated by a modern plague. Abandoned cities are being reclaimed by nature and the remaining survivors are killing each other for food, weapons and whatever they can get their hands on. Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a brave teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, must work together to survive their journey across what remains of the United States.
“We are excited to finally unveil The Last of Us, a project the team has been working hard on for some time,” said Evan Wells, Co-President of Naughty Dog. “Naughty Dog’s mission is to change the way people experience videogames. Naughty Dog vertelt meer over The Last of Us in een officieel persbericht

Gisteren werd met veel bombarie de gloednieuwe PS3-exclusive The Last of Us onthuld. Deze game komt exclusief uit op de PS3 en wordt ontwikkelt door niemand minder dan Naughty Dog, het team achter de Uncharted-franchise en Crash Bandicoot. De game moet een ervaring bieden de ongekend is en nog nooit eerder gedaan is in een andere game. Met actie en survival elementen moet dit een game worden om nooit meer te mogen vergeten. Naughty Dog heeft meer onthult in een persbericht, die ook hieronder te lezen valt, van vandaag.

Zo bevat het persbericht bovenstaand citaat van Naughty Dog’s Co-President Evan Wells. Hierin vertelt hij dat hun missie het veranderen van de manier waarop men vandaag de dag videogames speelt. Ze barsten van het zelfvertrouwen en zijn haast zeker van het feit dat The Last of Us het genre naar een hoger niveau tilt. De ervaring moet dan ook ongekend zijn in de gamesindustrie.

Wij zijn in ieder geval razend benieuwd naar deze game en hij staat dan ook bij veel redactie leden op het verlanglijstje.

The Last of Us is developed by some of the industry most talented game designers including Bruce Straley, game director, and Neil Druckmann, creative director. Naughty Dog advanced to the forefront of the videogame industry in 1996 with the successful introduction of Crash Bandicoot on the original PlayStation. The developer extended the franchise with Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped and Crash Team Racing, selling 22 million copies worldwide and led to Naughty Dog being the most successful video game developer in the United States for that console generation. The team then created the Jak and Daxter franchise including Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy®, Jak II™, Jak 3™ and Jak X: Combat Racing™. All four of titles are PlayStation®2 “Greatest Hits”. The Last of Us een bedreiging voor de Uncharted franchise?



Naughty Dog heeft deze generatie consoles onze harten gestolen door middel van de Uncharted franchise. Alle drie de delen op de PlayStation 3 waren absolute toppers en daarom verwachten wij ook veel van hun nieuwste game The Last of Us. Ondanks dat ze nu beginnen met een nieuwe IP, hoeven we ons geen zorgen te maken aangaande de Uncharted franchise.

Naughty Dog heeft nu namelijk twee ontwikkelteams, dat heeft Geoff Keighley gezegd op Twitter en Naughty Dog kon dat gelijk bevestigen. Tevens laat Naughty Dog weten, dat The Last of Us al twee jaar in ontwikkeling is, wat nogmaals aangeeft dat we ons geen zorgen hoeven te maken over de Uncharted franchise.

Nu zal de ontwikkeling van The Last of Us in een stroomversnelling komen, maar dan heeft de ontwikkelaar nog een ander groepje achter de hand, die zich alvast kan gaan bezig houden met een nieuwe Uncharted, want die gaat er zeker nog wel komen.

The Last of Us bevat geen online multiplayer

Daags na de onthulling van The Last of Us, het nieuwe spel van Uncharted ontwikkelaar Naughty Dog, zijn er veel vragen gekomen. Beetje bij beetje komen we meer te weten over deze survival game.

De verwachting is dat we de komende dagen veel meer te weten komen over het spel, aangezien de Engelse en Amerikaanse pers op het moment van schrijven een presentatie van het spel krijgen. Ondertussen is er flink getwitterd en uit een korte zoektocht zijn we de volgende dingen te weten gekomen.

Zo meldt de officiële pagina van The Last of Us dat het spel geen online multiplayer zal bevatten. Een pure singleplayer game wordt het dus. Het is vooralsnog niet bekend of er een offline multiplayer aanwezig zal zijn, maar gezien de trailer lijkt het voor de hand liggen dat er een co-op modus komt. In de trailer worden immers twee hoofdpersonages getoond.

Na het zien van de trailer werd gesuggereerd dat het meisje in kwestie een kopie van de actrice Ellen Page is, bekend van de films X-Men: The Last Stand en Inception. Ze lijkt er inderdaad veel op, maar ze is het niet. Op de Twitter van Neil Druckmann, creative director bij Naughty Dog, wordt gemeld dat Ellen Page niet aan de game meewerkt. De twee hoofdpersonen uit The Last of Us worden gespeeld door Troy Davis en Ashley Johnson.

Nog meer Twitter speurwerk leidt ons naar de Twitter van Mark Richard Davies, waar hij trots meldt dat zijn volgende klus na Enslaved: Odyssey to the West de nieuwste game van Naughty Dog wordt. The Last of Us dus.

Veel meer nieuws rond deze game wordt de komende tijd verwacht. Houd XGN daarom dus extra goed in de gaten.

Stemacteurs en lead designer The Last of Us bekend

Nieuws | 12 december 2011 - Neil Druckmann, creative lead designer bij Naughty Dog, heeft bekend gemaakt wie de stemmen, als ook het design zal uitvoeren voor de nieuwste game van de ontwikkelaar, zo meldt VG247.

Personen
Terwijl er verscheidene geruchten gonsden rondom het feit dat Ellen Page actrice van o.a. Inception en Juno haar stem en gezicht voor het personage Ellie zou verlenen, is dit gerucht vandaag afgedaan als onwaar. De personages Joel en Ellie zullen namelijk gespeeld worden door Ashley Johnson en Troy Baker. Terwijl Johnson relatief nieuw in de industrie is, is Baker inmiddels al wat bekender dankzij zijn rol als Two-Face in Batman: Arkham City, Snow in Final Fantasy XIII en XIII-2, Vincent in Catherine en Booker DeWitt in BioShock Infinite welke nog uitgebracht moet worden. Ook Mark Richard Davies, welke eerder heeft gewerkt als Lead Designer van Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, zal meewerken aan The Last of Us.

In The Last of Us is de wereld goed vernield. Een dodelijke infectieuze schimmel heeft een groot deel van de bevolking uitgeroeid en veranderd in agressieve geïnfecteerden. In het midden van een overwoekerd New York proberen Joel, een man op gemiddelde leeftijd, en Ellie, een tienermeid, te vechten om hun leven.


Middels een trailer leerden we tijdens de Video Game Awards dan eindelijk The Last of Us kennen, een nieuwe PlayStation 3 exclusive van ontwikkelaar Naughty Dog.
Nu we de officiële aankondiging achter de rug hebben leren we enkele nieuwe details over het spel:

Designer Mark Richard Davies werkt mee aan het spel, eerder was hij als lead designer verbonden aan Enslaved.
De game is al twee jaar in ontwikkeling.
Ashley Johnson verzorgt de rol van Ellie, het meisje die we in de trailer zeggen. Niet alleen spreekt ze haar stem in, ze is ook verantwoordelijk voor de motion-capture van het personage.
Het andere hoofdpersonage heet Joel en zijn stem zal worden verzorgd door Troy Baker. Deze man is zeker geen vreemde binnen de game-industrie, zo is zijn stem ook te horen in Star Wars: The Old Republic, Prototype 2 en BioShock: Infinite.

Dit gaat ongetwijfeld een zeer interessante game worden. Ik ben benieuwd in welke mate het gaat verschillen van Uncharted, games lijken qua uiterlijk best veel op elkaar.

Dat wordt me een te dure grap. Een Dell heeft hogere prioriteit. Misschien doe ik Sony nog een plezier door de Vita aan te schaffen, PS3 staat niet meer in mijn plannen, sorry
